Shamanic Journeying

Shamanic journeying is the prerequisite for many of the classes and workshops. Participation in either of the following two classes meets that requirement for other work.

Basic Shamanic Journeying

• This course completely covers the technique of the shamanic journey.
• There is no prerequisite.
• It is the prerequisite for most other courses offered by Last Mask Center.
• Basic Shamanic Journeying is a half-day class.

The shamanic journey is an ancient visionary technique used to enter the invisible realm of spirit for healing and guidance. It is the most direct and practical tool for engaging your own inner knowing. Through your journeys you can explore the hidden universe of spirit in the wise and loving care of your spirit allies. Everyone has spirit allies. They are the power animals and helping spirits in the spirit world who protect and help to awaken your dormant spiritual abilities. Come, learn to work with your spirit allies in this experiential class.

Shamanic Journeying and Integration

• This course covers the technique of the shamanic journey.
• This course covers the use of the journey as an integration tool, (for soul parts).
• There is no prerequisite.
• It is accepted as the journeying prerequisite for most other courses.
• Shamanic Journeying and Integration is a half-day class.

The integration of soul parts is a conscious process. It doesn't happen by itself. Full integration allows emotional release, creates freedom from the old patterns of behavior, thoughts and emotions, and assures that the parts do not leave again. The shamanic journey is the perfect tool to fully integrate the healing of your soul.

Upperworld Teachers and Middleworld Celebrations

• This course covers the technique of journeying in the Upper and Middle worlds.
• Prerequisite: shamanic journeying.
• This course is a single day companion class to Basic Shamanic Journeying.

This class completes your introduction to your helping spirits and to the terrain of the spirit world. In this class we will explore the Upperworld to meet your Spirit Teacher there and learn techniques for powerful shamanic self-healing. Then we will explore Middleworld to look at where you lose power daily and how to stop it. To close we will have some fun journeying all together to create a celebration that will encourage your Power Animals and Spirit Teachers to assist you more fully in your lives.

• A workshop is appropriate for you if you feel called to do it and you meet the prerequisite, which is usually the ability to journey. There are many ways to learn to journey outside of Last Mask Center if the timing or location of our courses doesn't coincide with your desire to be ready to take any of the courses below.


• All workshops are appropriate for advanced students of shamanism and new students simultaneously. These courses are experiential, and unlike academic formats, they offer different meaning and experiences to people at different levels of initiation.


• Many courses have advanced preparation available upon your request, assuming you meet the qualifications for advanced work.

Mastering the Art of the Shamanic Journey

Beyond the technique of the shamanic journeying lie three levels of mastery. Most people, no matter how many years they journey, will barely tap the healing and transformational power of this tool in a lifetime. However, mastery is accessible to those who seek it. The first level begins with learning to craft your questions, the second with learning to interpret your own symbolic language, and the third with learning how to clarify the actions to take and to take them.

• Mastery is offered in two formats, three single-day classes or a one-week intensive.
• Pre-requisite: experience journeying. It is not important that you journey well, only that your desire is true and that you are willing to keep trying.
• These skills are practical and will unlock the power in your journeying practice.

Part I. Crafting the Magical Question

The art of crafting questions.

The world of spirit rewards cleverness and courage in equal parts. Clarity comes not only from asking the right questions, but asking them in the right way. There is an art to asking questions. Timing, focus, perspective, and trust all come together in the art of crafting the magical question that, like a key, opens the door to Vision.

Part II. Interpreting Your Symbolic Language

The art of interpreting messages from spirit.

The world of spirit speaks to each of us through our own unique symbolic language. Learning to accurately interpret that language is essential to understanding your journeys. This art is based entirely on how your see yourself in the Universe and the true nature of your soul.

Part III. Putting the Message into Action

The art of action, discipline of manifestation, and power of "just do it."

Clever questions and accurate interpretations will not change your life. You must act. Journeys help to clarify and guide us in what needs to change and in the actions necessary to create that change in the real world. Then we are required to act. This is the final aspect of mastering the art of the shamanic and developing the full potential of your power and purpose in the world.

Wisdom of the Shaman in Everyday Life

Over the ages shamans have cultivated a heightened awareness of their own energy along with the skills to heal themselves and others. As a daily practice, the shaman uses these skills to continually transform and balance the light and dark forces encountered in life. A practitioner of these skills cultivates the power of the heart. The true power of the heart connects one to all things, drawing power form the great Oneness of life, and opening the pathway to peace.

Come learn these secret shamanic techniques to cultivate and contain your energy and to recover and protect your soul. Learn to release energies that no longer serve you and transform energies that impact your life from crisis to blessings

Beginners are encouraged to come as well. All shamanic techniques are, at their essence, simple. This is the place to begin. The mastery you will witness in the experienced students comes from their practice of these same simple things and can serve as a guide for your own development. In turn beginners bring the clarity of "Beginner's Mind," which always serves to humble and focus even the most advanced students and teachers.

Energy Medicine
Parts I & II

To be a person of power you must learn to contain power.

First we review our energy systems from the ground up, exploring every aspect of how we run energy. These patterns either enhance or inhibit our well-being and our efficacy at work and in relationship. Examples of some of the practices we will cover:

• Grounding, boundaries, and protection.
• Self-cleansing and self-healing.
• Energy: gather, contain, and transform.

We look at the complex experience we call "intuition." We explore why all these hours of spiritual practice, years of soul retrievals, and decades of therapy hasn't been as effective as we instinctually know it should be.

Your soul arrived here with a unique dream of life. That dream is your soul's song. It is meant to guide your life. Does your life resonate with your soul's song? Or has that song become distorted in a confusion of beliefs, illusions, and realities?

When you are not careful in maintaining and empowering your dreams, they become nightmares, bringing pain and disharmony into your life. Illness, depression, frustration, good relationships lost to dysfunction, and jobs that destroy your health and sanity are all signs that some part of your Lifedream is out of balance. This imbalance is a sign that you are giving life to your fantasies, not your soul's unique dream for the future.

Clarity is essential. The key to clarity is the shaman's "dreamtool." The dreamtool is used during the journey; it is a tool within a tool. The power of the dreamtool is two-fold. It can be used on your present life to distinguish fantasy from reality. It can also be used on your future to distinguish dreams from fantasy. With clarity you can align your intention with your soul's song so that every breath you take energizes the manifestation of the most extraordinary life you can envision.

Shamanism as a Spiritual Practice

All of our efforts in our spiritual lives are irrelevant if we cannot ground them in physical manifestation in the world. They are also irrelevant if we cannot align them with the Dream the Universe is dreaming of us. This is the essence of the path of the shaman - balance - to live a spiritual life on practical feet...to plow your field while you to travel the galaxies and explore the depths of your soul.

While the shamanism of other peoples and other times is interesting and powerful to experience, it is not the shamanism of this culture of which you are a part, today. Shamanism as a Spiritual Practice continues where other courses in shamanism leave off. It fills in what other courses leave out. With guidance, power, and an open heart your path will unfold. We will:

• Deepen your mastery of the shamanic journey and other divination skills.
• Learn the dynamics of gathering and containing the power.
• Define the actions and practices necessary for you to balance and open your heart.

The sacred technologies of the shaman can be applied to contemporary lives as a practice for spiritual growth. The value of the shaman's way is not found only in the ecstasy of journeying, but in the power of divination, guidance in the path of self-realization, and the application of the journeyer's visions to ordinary life.

Healing the Ancestral Lines

"We are the dreams of our Ancestors..." and they are also our nightmares. All that remains unresolved in your ancestral line, the violence, injustice, and suffering, has impact on your life today. It is the job of the ancestors to remember and the job of the living to change and heal. You and your extended family are the only means by which the ancestors can heal and they are using you to heal in this moment. By healing the ancestral line with intention you can free your Inner Visionary for your own life and reconnect with your sacred dream. From this place of power you can call on all that is good, true, and beautiful in your ancestral line to support you in living your soul's unique purpose.

• Healing the Ancestral Lines is offered in three, consecutive, single-day classes.
• Pre-requisite: experience journeying
• These skills are necessary to work safely with the illness and disharmony you have inherited from your ancestors.

Part I. Seeing

First you must learn to see the patterns of ancestral energy for what they are. This is very tricky. These patterns are part of what defines "normal" for you. They have been with you since the moment of your conception. They are not you, but they feel like you. You must learn to see them to be able to change them.

Part II. Being

Next we look at who you are "being" in the moment. Where is your energy going? What is it creating? The energy of your ancestors is woven into the fabric of your life in two distinct ways. There is the way in which they stand behind you to support you in manifesting your soul's purpose. There is also the way in which they stand in front of you, blocking you with all that remains unhealed and using your mental, emotional, and physical health to heal it. In Part II we will look at what needs to heal in the ancestral line and how to heal it.

Part III. Becoming

Finally, we ask, "What are you here to become?" You are part of the Universe dreaming itself into awareness. Your "original medicine" comes from this Dreaming and it resonates with the true song of your soul. How are you to use what you have learned from your ancestors, both the light and the dark, to guide you in living out your soul's unique purpose? How do you feed and nurture your connection with the Ancestors who support you on your life's path?

Shamanic Power Tools

Ceremony and ritual are the two power tools of the shaman used to call spirit in to intervene in human affairs. There is a quality of sacred space necessary for this work to succeed as well as establishing an authentic connection with spirit. Though these words are used interchangeably today, ritual and ceremony are not the same. They are polar opposites used to accomplish two completely different things.

• Power Tools is offered in three weekends. Participants must commit to all three.
• Pre-requisite: experience journeying and Wisdom of the Shaman in Everyday Life or Cycle of Transformation workshop.

Part I. Altars

Altars ground our relationship with spirit and anchor our sacred space. The creation of a working altar involves the creation and activation of power objects that embody the energy of the helping spirits you work with. The right placement of the objects demands understanding your sacred cosmology, where you are in your soul's path, and where you are going.

Part II. Ceremony

The purpose of ceremony is to ground people, to strengthen the bonds within the community, and the community's bonds with Spirit and the Ancestors. In a successful ceremony the energy spirals downward, towards the earth, drawing Spirit into the community to reinforce the status quo. The magic of ceremony is in its predictability and control.

Part III. Ritual

Ritual is used to call on the spirit world to help achieve goals that the people cannot achieve in any other way. It is used to create change and upset the status quo. In ritual the energy spirals upwards, towards Spirit; it is unpredictable and uncontrollable. Ritual is never the same twice. That is the uniqueness and the magic of ritual.

Clarifying Your Soul's Path

To cultivate the vision for your life you must understand two things. First, you are here with the singular responsibility to live out your soul's unique purpose. Second, the Universe is conspiring with you in every moment to do that. The messages that will clarify your soul's path for you are found in three places: where you have been, where you are, and your passion for where you are going. Each weekend is devoted to divining the message from one of these three areas of your life. We will use all of the skills cultivated in other Last Mask Center workshops.

Part I. Where have you been?

Before the Kosmos dreamed you into existence it dreamed your universe, your planet, and your Ancestors into existence. Your ancestors lived and dreamed and those dreams of the future became you. How are you using what you have learned from your ancestors, both the light and the dark, to guide you in living out your soul's unique purpose? What have you learned from your life as The Teacher? What have you learned from your body and your healing and The Teacher?

Part II. Where are you?

What will your life stand for when you die?

Will you die knowing you gave your life everything? Or, in truth, will it be something less? Life is a courageous act of love. Passion is the indicator that we are aligned with our path. Joy is the reward in having the courage to walk it. There is no act more terrifying than to live your life in love, whole-hearted and open to the Unknown. We will explore the fears that arise as you bring your true self out into the world, discover their origins and create the rituals necessary for their release.

Part III. Where are you going?

Your soul's path is a relentless power within you that constantly extends an invitation to you to be who you are. This power connects you to your Lifedream, the unique fragment of the Kosmic dream that results in you. What do you need to get out of your own way and be the dream the Kosmos is dreaming you to be?

Picking Up your Medicine

Advance shamanic work. Only for people who want to access the medicine that they have been given in this life because they intend to use it for the betterment of all beings. All medicine is poison when it is first "picked up". Most people just live with the poison, saying, "that's just how I am." In others it simply lies dormant. Picking up your medicine is a process by which you surrender to the poison and take it in, letting it transform you. Only then can you gain the wisdom, compassion, and power to transform the poison into medicine.
